The Netherlands - Swastika on unusual places

[08/30/2003] In Delft at the Beestenmarkt (animal market) a metal staff can be seen, which from the top looks like a swastika.

Many people from Delft know that the animal market which was called after the public auction of cows, sheep and pigs, can be still found there from the previous century. The poles, which were part of the market structure, still remain of that animal market.

It was like this. Everywhere on the animal market there were poles lined up, so they formed an imaginary square. On market days between the openings of these poles, boards were placed. This way, a square wooden boundary was quickly realized, so that the pigs, goats, chickens and sheep of the seller couldn't run away.
