Netherlands - More examples of Churches with swastika like ornaments.[01/10/2004]
The church of Princenhage (Breda-West) has a few fylfots (swastika), trifos and twofoses (yin/yang-like) decorations at the top of the windows in the church-building. ![]() Around 1261 there are already indications of a church in Princenhage, at that time the church and her perish was still important for a large part of the current city of Breda. Throughout the years more and more churches were build in the surroundings, which shrunk its significants back to the current district of Princenhage.
In 1873 a big fire almost totally destroyed the church. Under supervision of the architect Cuypers at that time, the church was rebuild. After that only a few restorations occurred, of which the last one was finished in 1994. The local artist Elly Smulders was involved in the re-coloring of the church-building, also the altar in the church is of her design.
